Most Common Pentair Prowler 920 Reported Problems
Technical Malfunction Issues
Multiple users report issues with the Pentair Prowler 920, primarily related to movement failures, electrical problems, and operational inconsistencies, often despite attempts to troubleshoot and clean the device.
- Movement Failures: Many users experience the robot moving only briefly (5-10 seconds) before stopping or reversing. This issue is frequently reported and persists even after attempts to clean or replace parts.
- Power and Electrical Issues: Several reports mention the unit not turning on or the control panel malfunctioning, with some users noting that the control panel remains operational while the robot does not. These issues suggest potential electrical faults within the robot itself.
- Flashing Lights and Malfunctions: Users have reported instances where the unit powers on with flashing lights but fails to move, indicating possible motor or internal component failures.
- General Failure to Operate: A recurring theme is the inability of the unit to function, with users stating that it turns on but does not move, regardless of cleaning or checking for debris.
Power and Charging Issues
Multiple reports indicate power supply issues with vacuum units, including shutdowns, intermittent failures, and electrical trips, primarily occurring after prolonged use or under specific conditions.
- Vacuum Shutdowns: Vacuums consistently run for about 15 seconds before shutting down, indicating a potential power supply or control panel malfunction.
- Power Supply Failures: Intermittent issues with power supplies not turning on or shutting off unexpectedly, even after trying different outlets.
- Breaker Trips: Reports of breakers being thrown, particularly when using the equipment for extended periods, suggesting possible overload or short-circuiting issues.
- Control Panel Issues: Control panels failing to power on, with no indicators showing functionality despite checks on electrical connections.
- GFI Trips: Specific mention of GFI plugs being tripped after about 15 minutes of operation, requiring resets, indicating a recurring electrical fault.
Performance Issues
Multiple users report issues with the Prowler 920, primarily related to suction, movement, and cleaning efficiency, indicating a pattern of mechanical performance problems affecting pool maintenance.
- Movement Issues: Several reports indicate the Prowler 920 moves only a short distance (3 feet) before stopping, does not turn, and struggles to climb walls. Users mention that lifting the unit allows it to move freely.
- Suction Problems: Users consistently report inadequate suction, with the unit failing to pick up debris effectively. Some mention that the device goes over debris but does not collect it, and others note debris being expelled from the discharge chute.
- Cleaning Efficiency: Complaints about the unit leaving lines on pool liners when climbing walls and not cleaning as effectively as before are noted. Despite cleaning the impeller and filters, users still experience issues with debris collection.
Setup and Usage Issues
Users reported difficulties with pool equipment, including a stuck lid, tangled cords on the Pentair Prowler 920, and a filter basket issue, indicating recurring problems with usability and maintenance.
- Lid Opening Difficulty: The lid is hard to open and has become completely stuck, indicating a potential design flaw or wear over time.
- Tangled Cord on Pentair Prowler 920: The cord consistently tangles during operation despite attempts to keep it straight, suggesting a design issue that affects usability.
- Stuck Filter Basket: Users are experiencing difficulty removing the basket from the filter, which may indicate a need for better guidance or a design improvement.
Customer Support Issues
Customers are seeking assistance with replacement parts for pool equipment, specifically filter bags and Kreepy Crawler wheels, indicating a need for better support in locating these items.
- Filter Bag Replacement: Multiple requests for inside filter bag replacements have been noted, indicating a consistent demand for this specific part among customers.

My Pentair Prowler 920 isn’t even 12 months old. I went to use it one day and it moves forward for 5 -10 second, then reverses back and stops. I tried half a dozen times with the same thing happening. Took it out and thought that maybe one of the tracks seems a little loose (or looser than the other anyway) so I replaced the track but it still does the same thing. Anybody know what the problem is and how to fix this it?

Submit Your Own IssueI turn it on at the panel, the blue light comes on the machine in the pool, but it does not move at all. I’ve taken it completely apart and took the motor out. Everything looks fine with no debris and tracks move fine. I can only assume it’s the motor.

My Prowler does not turn on. The control panel turns on and turns off straight away. When I disconnect the robot from the control panel, the control panel stays on. It seems like the issue is the robot cleaner itself. Any suggestion how to fix this issue?
